RCVS Practice Standards

What is the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme?

Jurassic Vets is an RCVS Practice Standards Scheme accredited practice. Having set ourselves the target of offering the very best care for Sidmouth's pets, we are very proud to be the only practice in Sidmouth with an RCVS Practice Standards inspection at the prestigious level of Small Animal General Practice.

What are the CORE standards?

"Core standards are relevant to all veterinary practices and reflect mainly legal requirements which must be met in running a veterinary practice, together with guidance as set out in the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct."

Some of these requirements include:

Access to 24 hour emergency care for patients

At Jurassic vets we provide our own Out of Hours service, giving continuity to clients.

What is the Small animal General practice accreditation?

"General Practice accreditation reflects the requirements of a primary care practice which

also aims to facilitate the achievement of high standards of clinical care, and encompasses

many of the facilities required for veterinary nurse training standards. General Practices must meet the Core and GP requirements in all of the Modules."

Some of these requirements include:

The use of anaesthetic monitoring equipment

We have a variety of patient monitoring aids to help our RVN's monitor patients safely under a general anaesthetic and support patients through their procedures and recovery.

Access to Diagnostic imaging facilities

Here at Jurassic Vets we have onsite Radiography and Ultrasound facilities. All facilities comply with Radiation legislation.

In house laboratory

Having in house laboratory facilities means we can provide owners with answers quickly and effectively. Our high-tech machines allows us to run biochemistry blood samples. It is still necessary to send some samples to an outside lab in Exeter.

What does this mean for you and your pets?

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons' Practice Standards Scheme (PSS) is a voluntary initiative to accredit veterinary practices in the UK. Through setting standards and carrying out regular assessments to ensure that practices measure up to these. The Scheme aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.

It offers peace of mind to clients of accredited practices and a more informed choice to the animal-owning public. To become accredited, Jurassic vets have volunteered for rigorous assessment every four years and have met a range of minimum standards including hygiene, 24-hour emergency cover, staff training, certain types of equipment and cost estimation procedures, and is also subject to spot-checks between assessments.

Look for the logo

For peace of mind, look for the RCVS Practice Standards accredited practice logo, which indicates that the practice has passed an independent assessment. You can see these logos proudly displayed in our waiting room and consultation rooms, assuring you of the high quality of care your pet will receive at Jurassic Vets
